    The Facts

  • The Glenora Inn & Distillery is located on a 900 acre site in Glenville, Inverness County, Nova Scotia, Canada.

  • The distillery and tourism facilities were constructed during the period 1988-1990. The buildings consist of malt storage, grist mill, mash house, still house, warehouses, bottling plant, and a 6 chalet, 9 room inn hospitality facility. The structures were constructed in traditional post and beam style, similar in nature to distilleries found in Scotland. The Architect was David Forsyth.

  • The 2 copper pot stills were made by Forsyth & Sons of Speyside Scotland. The Glenora Distillery has an annual production licence of 250,000 litres of alcohol; its current production is 50,000 litres which can easily be expanded to 400,000 - 500,000 litres per annum with reasonable additional expenditures.

  • 1st Release - In the fall of 2000, Glenora Distillers released the first bottling, Glen Breton Rare, North America’s first Single Malt Whisky.  It is an 8 year old and has a blue label.  The first 500 bottles were signed, numbered and boxed as a collector item.  Price per bottle ranges from CDN 300.00 to 50,000.00 (bottle #1). The balance of this bottling sold in just one year.

  • 2nd Release – In the fall of 2001 Glenora Distillers released the second bottling.  The 9 year old expression has a black label and is packaged in a black hinged box.

  • Friendship Series – In Fall, 2001 Glenora Distillers packaged an additional 9 year bottling as the expanded market reached Japan.

  • 14 Year – In Fall 2004, Glenora Distillers released the first single cask bottling.  In 1990, the first year of production, there were only 20 casks barrelled. Cask # 6 of 20 was originally aged in a bourbon cask, later moved to a rum cask, then a sherry, and back to bourbon cask. The final casking yielded 120 bottles.  Their price started at CDN 300.00 per bottle.  It is sold out.
  • 15 Year - In 2005 Cask # 5 (1990) was released as a single cask bottling.  The  yield was 194 bottles and as Cask # 6 (1990) it was originally aged in a bourbon cask, later moved to a rum cask, then a sherry, and back to bourbon cask. It is sold out.

  • In addition to fine whisky, Glenora Distillers also blends and bottles Smuggler's Cove rum.

  • After a couple of years bottling a 9 year expression, Glenora Distillers bottled a 10 year expression.  It too is in in a black hinged box with a black label and an age statement on the bottle.

  •  Glenora Distillers partnered with Jost Vineyard, an award winning Nova Scotia winery, to produce the worlds first Ice Wine finished single malt whisky.  Originally available in a 10 year expression the line was later expanded to include 15 and 17 year expressions.
