What is the Meaning of Life Without Whiskey?

We’d like to apologize upfront for the title of this blog post. Asking what life would be like without whiskey is a dreadful masochistic exercise. It’s like asking your partner what they would do if you had no arms, legs, or head. But we’re going to go ahead and do it anyway, just so that you can get a sense of how bad things would be.

Think about it. Without whiskey, you can say goodbye to all your favorite movies. The Bank Dick (1940), Laura (1944), Lost in Translation (2003), and Thunder Road (1958) would probably never have been made.

And you can also be pretty sure that a lot of good music would not have come out, either. Travis Tritt’s The Whiskey Ain’t Workin’, Alison Krauss’s Whiskey Lullaby and Cole Swindell’s Ain’t Worth the Whiskey would only exist in a parallel universe. The more recent (and extremely popular) Tennessee Whiskey by Chris Stapleton would have also taken a different form. (Perhaps he would have called it Tennessee Vodka).

Whiskey traditions would also be absent from modern life. Sayings like “too much of anything is bad, but too much good whiskey is barely enough” would never have been uttered.

The old proverb that whiskey cures all would also not exist. Generations of children would have grown up without the pleasure of slurping a shot of whiskey every time they had a sore throat.

In short, life without whiskey is unthinkable. Fortunately, it’s also never going to happen. Whiskey isn’t the meaning of life, but it gets pretty close.
