Glenora Distillery saw three of its premium beverages recognized at the 12th annual event.

Wednesday, July 14th. Nova Scotia, Canada - Following this year’s New York International Spirits Competition, Glen Breton is celebrating a trio of successes as three of the Canadian distillery’s beverages were awarded distinctions from a field of over 1,400 entrants from 39 countries, including 34 U.S. territories.

One Gold And Two Bronze Awards For Glen Breton

Organized by the experts behind The New York International Beer, Cider, and Wine Competitions, the NYISCs is one of the industry’s biggest events and the only international spirits events judged by real traders. Glen Breton was one of Canada’s biggest winners of the event, landing three separate certifications under the whisky category despite the fact that this year’s event saw more than 200 additional entrants compared to the 2020 event.

Glen Breton’s Rare 14-Year and Rare 19-Year were both awarded the bronze medal while the distillery’s 10-Year whisky was awarded the gold. For the gold award, it means that traders declared that they “love it”. Both the bronze and gold winner stickers can be displayed proudly by drinks manufacturers with the Canadian distillery able to celebrate its triumphs with immediate results. President Lauchie MacLean says “ Our team at Glenora is filled with pride with our products being internationally recognized for its  high quality . We continue to strive to create wonderful single malts that can be enjoyed around the world. “

All three of Glen Breton’s winning single malt whiskys were commended for their distinct taste notes. The 14-Year was praised for its light and smooth tastes of apple, heather, honey, and maple, which has also seen it named a Triple Gold Medal Winner at the Micro Liquor Awards. Meanwhile, the 10-Year whisky, which was also rated in the Top 50 Spirits Worldwide by Wine Enthusiast Magazine was celebrated for its hints of tobacco maple and cherry, along with its long finish and spiced chocolate flavor.

The distillery’s passion for bringing premium whisky to North America is clear, and the latest awards are further recognition of its continued commitment to quality.

Introducing Glen Breton Alexander Keith's Single Malt Whisky

Introducing Glen Breton Alexander Keith's Single Malt Whisky

Eighteen years ago, Glenora distilled several batches of Alexander Keith’s IPA, placed it in bourbon oak barrels and tucked it away in a dark corner of a warehouse in the magical hills of Cape Breton.

After 18 years of quietly maturing, it garnered a wonderful taste of malted barley that was enhanced by the spring waters and apple trees scattered throughout Glenora’s property. The end result is a whisky with soft notes of maple cream, butterscotch, and a rounded lingering light applewood finish.

“After all these years, it’s amazing to see this collaboration between these two Nova Scotia institutions come to fruition,” said Matt Miles, General Manager of Alexander Keith’s Nova Scotia Brewery. “Two hundred years after Alexander Keith’s brewery was founded, Keith’s remains one of the best-selling beer brands in Nova Scotia. Now to have such a well-crafted whisky from Glenora bear Mr. Keith’s name is something we think our founder, especially given his Scottish heritage, would be proud of.” Miles also added, “We are proud to keep this partnership brewing. Alexander Keith’s Brewery will be using these same barrels that aged the whisky to age a new beer that will be released in 2022.”

Of the company’s new product, Glenora’s President Lauchie MacLean says:

It is amazing how such a great beer can be distilled and aged into something totally different from the original product and become wonderful in a whole different way. As with Alexander Keith’s India Pale Ale, we are sure those who like it will like it a lot.”

Glen Breton Alexander Keith’s Canadian Single Malt Whisky will be available in select Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation stores or you can buy whisky online from Glenora.

Special Operations Executive Commemorative Whisky

New Packaging Now Available

Do you know about the S.O.E.?

2020 marks the 80th anniversary of the creation of the Special Operations Executive (SOE).

The legendary SOE was created on July 22, 1940. It was a secret British WWII organization whose purpose was to conduct espionage, sabotage and reconnaissance in occupied Europe. Few people were aware of SOE's existence. Its agents were mainly tasked with sabotage and subversion behind enemy lines.

The Canadian connection to the SOE was derived both in terms of the Canadian personnel recruited to serve and the contribution of a training establishment in the form of Camp X. The site of Camp X, situated on the shores of Lake Ontario, is designated as Intrepid Park and named after a key figure in the establishment of the SOE, Canadian Sir William Stephenson (code named "Intrepid").

The tartan on the box has been named after Sir William Stephenson and is aimed at honouring the legacy of the SOE and those who serve. Colours: tan pays homage to Canadian Special Operations Forces; green is a tribute to Canadian Intelligence; black signifies the history of covert operations; red signifies Canada and the sacrifice of the SOE; and blue pays tribute to the sky and sea which supports SOE operations.

HMCS Sackville is the last of Canada's 123 corvettes, one of many convoy escort vessels built in Canada and the United Kingdom during WWII. She is Canada's oldest fighting warship and has been our official Naval Memorial since 1985. It is very appropriate that the ship is in Halifax, Nova Scotia, as this East Coast port was an important assembly point and destinations for convoys during the Battle of the Atlantic.
